Inspired by the outside
Having grown up living near the sea and the moors in Devon I’m always inspired by the natural world and especially love trying to capture the uniqueness of every landscape, on that given day under any given weather. I love the coasts of Cornwall in particular as you’re almost guaranteed changing light and conditions from hour to hour.
Because responding directly to a scene helps me retain a feeling of immediacy I prefer to work outdoors and paint on the spot, en plein air.
I mainly work in oil and charcoal, but am experimenting more with watercolour, especially for sketching.
Based near Henfield, Sussex I am lucky enough to have the inspiration of the beautiful South Downs on my doorstep. I frequently return to the South West to paint around Devon and Cornwall.
